Back to Sea Scout Ship Amore
|
Notes By Tom Harrison Mariah and her Father Ben completed their paperwork aboard ship thereby prompting the idea of starting a tradition of new Sea Scouts submitting their paperwork aboard the Amore and then going on a sail. Welcome Mariah and her Father, Ben. Bob Webb and I were aboard as Scout Two-deep Leadership acting as Safety Officer and Adult leader respectively. All aboard enjoyed terrific and nutritious snacks provided by Mrs. Post. Thank you! The Crew utilized Richards Sea Scout sailing plan, and the Pre-Sail checklists worked like a charm, requring minimal Adult supervision throughout the sail. More to come on our next sail, which will start from Patriots Point, soon. Fair Winds, THom Harrison |
I understand that this puts extra work and responsibility
on Bob, Bob and Richard. I am also volunteering to be trained for the position (Safety Officer) and will submit my training to Bob Heck and Bob Webb for approval. (I got the Safety Officer idea from the Annapolis Navy26 Head Coach training manual. http://usna.edu/SailingTeam/training/pubsinst/coachmanual.pdf If I could interrupt my own thoughts and say that I have sailed 4-5 times since coming to Charleston. I have never felt the wind and power of the sail like I did on Sunday. Even though I did not touch a sail, a sheet or rudder. The Amore is a fast boat, and truly responded to the crew. Bob Webb did an outstanding job of allowing the crew to sail, did not sweat the small stuff, and created a great environment for learning. The specific tasks (in the flyer) were noted during the sail for review, based on discussion with the Scouts, Bob and Ben. Is someone available to complete even a portion of the ideas below with me this weekend? I am available Saturday Morning for Cleanup and training. Sunday for sail. I think that it is the next step forward. Fair winds, Sea Scout Ship 510
